Apparently: Karkat comes from "Karkata," the Hindu astrological equivalent of Cancer, minus one letter. Additionally, his name may be drawn from "Karkinos," a giant crab who fought Hercules of myth, also the origin of the Cancer astrological sign. Vantas, on the other hand, is a prostate cancer treatment drug.

He's a 5'0ft little asshole that isn't stocky, per se, but really thick. Square-ish face. He has short, nubby horns and blunt, protruding teeth which is probably the alien equivalent of an overbite. Big alien ears. Yellow sclera, gray skin, gray eyes and short hair with life of its own. Angry, bushy eyebrows and button nose. He is not radiantly beautiful but he is probably adorable by human standards.
Distinguishing features: (Anything unusual—scars, tattoos, etc. Or an unusual color of hair. What makes your character an individual? Please do not say violet-coloured eyes.)
Surprisingly, red blood is an anomaly for their species. He is a mutant.
Frequently used verbal expressions: (Either phrases “unbelievably pretentious!” or attitude.)
Karkat Vantas insults everybody, but he isn't repetitive, no. He's very creative with his insults! He rarely uses the same material twice. As a result, some of his insults end up pretty fucking stupid.
Frequently used facial expression or other physical gesture: (They motion with their hands while they talk, never look people in the eye while giving speeches, tap their pens while listening to professors.)
Karkat's face is stuck in a perpetual >:( except when he's processing the utter stupidity before him, then his face will be incredulous. Karkat hunches; he never stands straight. His movements are really tense. He rarely smiles. 8(

Gamzee as moirail. Gamzee is pitiable as fuck and Karkat really, genuinely wants to help him because they were best friends. Karkat is probably the only person that could subdue Gamzee, even.
